The article presents the results of a study on the distribution, clinical features, and pathological
changes associated with coenurosis in sheep. The research was conducted across three farms, where a
total of 1,200 animals were examined. Out of these, 72 animals were diagnosed with coenurosis, which
corresponds to 6% of the examined population. The extensiveness of the invasion was 6%, and the
intensity of the invasion averaged 1-2 cysts per infected animal.
The most frequently observed clinical signs included clockwise circling movements (37.50%),
forward head tilt (23.61%), and counterclockwise circling (16.66%). Less common symptoms involved
vision impairment (5.55%), recumbency (8.33%), and limb paralysis (8.33%).
The findings also demonstrate a higher prevalence of coenurosis among females compared to
males. This may be due to differing management conditions and increased susceptibility to stress in
females, which can contribute to disease development. Additionally, animals raised outdoors were
significantly more affected than those kept indoors, suggesting that inadequate pasture hygiene and
exposure to intermediate hosts may play a role in the spread of infection.
Age analysis revealed the highest prevalence rates among sheep aged between >1 year to 2 years
(31.94%) and older than 2 years (34.72%). The extensiveness and intensity of the invasion within these
age groups indicate that older animals may be more susceptible due to cumulative parasite exposure or
age-related weakening of the immune system.
