Аннотация

Background and Aim. The transition of seeds from dormancy to germination is determined by their metabolic state, during which various factors, such as growth stimulators, can exert influence and the seed can respond accordingly. Even at early ontog enetic stages, by analyzing seedling organs (their activity and development capacity), it is possible to evaluate the effectiveness of growth-stimulating agents used. This study aims to understand the role of growth stimulators in regulating the growth and development of Sudan grass to better realize the genetic potential of this forage crop.

Materials and Methods. The study was conducted using seeds of Sudan grass (Tugai variety) to investigate the effects of growth-stimulating agents on seedling development. Pre-sowing treatments with the growth stimulators Mival-Forte and Foster were applied on filter paper in Petri dishes. Seeds treated with distilled water served as the control.

Results. Improved seed quality parameters were observed in all treated variants compared to the control. Treatment with Mival-Forte and Foster increased the germination rate to 24.2 and 15.3 seeds per day, respectively, exceeding the control by 5.9 and 3.3 seeds per day. Germination energy in the control was 6–7% lower than in treated samples, while laboratory germination was 5–6% higher in treated variants. The average lengths of seedlings and roots were greatest in seeds treated with Mival-Forte and Foster. Treatment with these biostimulants activated metabolic processes in the germinating seeds, resulting in a shortened duration of the main germination stages.

Conclusion. The results demonstrate that the use of growth-stimulating agents significantly improved germination speed, root system length, and seedling growth. These findings may be valuable for developing pre-sowing seed treatment methods and increasing crop yield.
